14/August
A labor of defiance
Mostly unnoticed in passing
The flower on the sidewalk
Gives without asking
It braids your unrest
Into something fathomable
And parts with what it hides
In all of its lavender specks
An escape for a moment
Or two, for a breath
Its touching tenderness
Reminds you of people
Who make rooms out of nothing for others
Everywhere they go
Its beauty reminds you of transience
Of how we are all just wayfarers
Has anyone noticed this flower before?
Tomorrow it might wither
Unclaimed,
Unmourned for
But having taken its place
For the better
In someone’s pause
Let there be more of its kind
